Although some amount of cholesterol is essential for body to function properly, high levels of cholesterol in the body will increase the risk of many health problems such as heart disease. Having balanced diet always helps to maintain your cholesterol level in control. Even though, you have many foods to lower your cholesterol level, there are some foods, such as meat, seafood, and dairy products have reverse action and raise your cholesterol level.
Meats: The skin on poultry has a huge quantity of cholesterol and most of the organs of animals, such as liver, kidneys, and brains, are very rich in cholesterol. Goose and duck are also high in cholesterol. If you consume more meat, then your cholesterol touches the danger zone.
Dairy: Dairy products have very high amount of cholesterol. One cup of milk has 30 mg of cholesterol and an egg contains about 200 mg of cholesterol. The fat present in dairy products are due to the higher cholesterol levels.
Seafood: There are some fish varieties such as shrimp and crawfish which have the high quantity of cholesterol. Most fish extracts and almost all types of fish oils also have the high levels of cholesterol.
Alternatives: you can have the dairy products which are low in fat or fat free. Consume more vegetables like eggplant and mushrooms than meats and fish. |
