Rough estimate of triglycerides and cholesterol is performed in the lab test for cholesterol. For proper functioning of body little amount of cholesterol is required. It is a wax like soft substance present in almost all parts of the body. When the level of cholesterol becomes more it gets deposited in the arteries resulting in heart attack and heart disease. For performing the test the site from where blood has to be drawn has to be cleaned to make it free from germs. Either back of the hand or elbow is selected for drawing blood. Elastic band is wrapped on the upper part of the elbow and blood is drawn. Before performing test it is necessary not to drink or eat any kind of food at least 9 hours to 12 hours. Any drug which can affect the result of the test must be avoided. The aim behind this test is to find out the amount of risk on the coronary artery. It is recommended that the cholesterol test must be performed at least once in every five years. This test must be started at the age of 20 years. Lab test for cholesterol is different from the other test in a way that it measures the risk of the disease. |
